Age Suitability
Effective 2 October 2026
1. Ubumi is for people aged 16 and over
You must be at least 16 years old to hold a Ubumi account. There are no exceptions, no parental-consent route, and no supervised or limited account for anyone younger. If we find that an account belongs to someone under 16, we close it.
Ubumi is not a social app that happens to feature work. Everything in it — job listings, applications, attendance, pay, the marketplace — exists to put people into paid agricultural work. An account is a way of being hired, so the age floor for holding one is a floor on who can be hired through us.
2. Why the floor is 16, and why it is absolute
Agriculture is one of the three sectors where the great majority of child labour occurs worldwide. A platform that matches labour to farms without a hard age barrier does not stay neutral about that risk; it lowers the cost of it. We treat a strict minor barrier as a condition of operating at all, in place from the first day rather than added once the problem appears.
The ILO Minimum Age Convention (No. 138) sets 15 as the general minimum working age and 18 for hazardous work, with agriculture routinely classed as hazardous because of machinery, chemicals, heat and long hours. National law differs, and some of it permits lighter work below those ages. We do not try to model those exceptions. Ubumi applies one floor everywhere — 16 — and where local law is stricter than us, local law governs.
A single hard rule is deliberate. Age exceptions are where child labour enters a system: each one needs a check nobody performs, and the exception becomes the route.
3. How the age rule is enforced
- Stated at registration. By creating an account you confirm you are 16 or over, as our Terms require. Accounts are personal — creating one for someone else, including a child, breaks the Terms.
- Reportable by anyone. Every profile carries a report control, and Underage user is one of the reasons. Reports are read by a person, and we aim to act on them within 24 hours; the person reported is never told who reported them.
- Removed on discovery. An account we believe belongs to someone under 16 is closed as soon as we find it, and then erased. We do not ask the account to prove its age first — closing it comes first.
- Employers stay responsible. Hiring through Ubumi does not move the legal duty to check a worker's age and right to work onto us. Employers must verify identity and age before work starts, and must comply with the rules for 16- and 17-year-olds in their country — hazardous tasks, machinery, agrochemicals, night work and working hours are commonly restricted or forbidden.
4. Telling us about someone under 16
If you believe a Ubumi account belongs to a child, report it in the app — open the profile, choose Report user, then Underage user — or write to support@ubumi.online with the profile name and anything that helps us find it. You do not need an account to email us, and you do not need proof: a reason to suspect is enough to make us look.
If you believe a child is at work right now, or in danger, contact your local labour inspectorate or emergency services first. We can close an account; we cannot reach a field.
5. Store age ratings and what is in the app
Ubumi contains no gambling, no sexual content, no violence and no user-to-user content designed for entertainment. What it does contain is a real labour market: profiles of real people, contact details, locations of farms and job sites, prices, and free-text job descriptions, reviews and notes written by adults arranging work.
That is why the rating is driven by suitability rather than by content. Where a store's scale offers no 16 option, we take the next age above it rather than the one below, and our own rule of 16 applies regardless of what a store's scale allows.
6. Questions
Questions about this policy, or about an account you think belongs to a child: legal@ubumi.online or support@ubumi.online.
